Hi James, if these thoughts are going on for you and they are causing you some concerns, I suggest a call to Gamblers Help, 1800858858, or log into http://www.gamblinghelponline.org.au. If you want to get more money, gambling isn’t the way to do it, because like the saying goes, ‘the longer you play the more you lose’.
Need money. Gotta get money. Put money, get money-get lot’s of money! So put money. No money. Put more money. Still no money. Put ALL money. Now NO money. Need money…

I have been a ‘habitual player’ and have finally woken up to myself. My gambling started to form a ‘pattern’, when I was feeling ‘lonely’ (my husband is away from home 3-4 days a week), needed to de-stress from work (only adding more stress when I lost $100+ and getting the amazing ‘buzz’ when I occasionally ‘pull back’ a couple of hundred, this is where the thinking changes to ‘I will play some more and see if I can get a BIG win, shifting my thinking to “I am playing with their money anyway”, putting back into my wallet the amount I walked in with, 5 times out of 10 walking out with this amount (and feeling I haven’t ‘lost’ anaything), Also, experiencing the ‘worst feeling of regret’ when I walk out with an empty wallet….feeling so angry with myself….not sleeping that night…waking up next morning feeling like a ‘useless human being’. We all of us who play these wretched thing know the feeling only too well. Have you ever looked at the sign at a pub where there are machines (there is a big black hole in the centre of it), I have done a mind shift and when I now see this sign I think of it as a big black hole where I throw my money into, what an amazing positive feeling this gives. It has taken a few weeks, but I am finally “over it”, I can now look at my bank statement without seeing $100 here and there “wasted”, I can now see my credit cards reducing…..this my friends…is the result of kicking the rotten habit out of my life. Yes, I am still tempted, but quickly shift my thinking to going home and taking my dogs for a walk, I don’t carry my cards in my wallet, this makes it easy, no money = can’t play. Good luck to everyone (that is to say, good luck in stopping not in winning) and hey, the buzz I get by NOT playing is so much better even than the one I got when I did win!!!!!!!!! Also, I have ‘taken back’ my weakness which has now turned into a strength of determination.
